PhD program

International and innovative PhD in Agriculture Technology and Biotechnology Coordinator prof. Giuseppe Maiorano e-mail: maior@unimol.it   The PhD Course (XXXVI cycle) is focused on the agricultural-environmental-food system as encoded in Horizon 2020. Its objectives and fields of investigation are sustainable agriculture, safety, quality and legal profiles of the production of the agri-food sector, animal welfare, development and promotion of Green economy. The PhD course consists of three curricula:
  1. Sustainable plant production and protection
It aims at developing new skills and technologies for a sustainable management and exploitation of the agrarian and forestry ecosystems, preserving biodiversity, reducing the chemical inputs into the agrarian ecosystems (Horizon 2020).
  1. Food Science, Technology and Biotechnology
It aims at forming young researchers who are able to develop innovative technologies and products in the field of food science, technology and biotechnology (transformation, storage and food quality assessment).
  1. Welfare, Biotechnology and Quality of Animal Production
It aims at: developing new skills in the research area of animal production by enabling technology (mainly of this is in ovo technology) and biotechnology-based sustainable innovation for the optimization of animal production and welfare; the valorization of products of animal origin, by taking into consideration the economic, regulatory, and safety aspects of foods. .
The International PhD Program “Agriculture Technology and Biotechnology (ATB) is activated in the framework of the cooperation including Italy, Poland and Slovakia and on the basis of the internationalization process of the University education system. The partners of this 3 year-program are:
  • Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Food Sciences, University of Molise;
  • Faculty of Animal Breeding and Biology, UTP, University of Science and Technology in Bydgoszcz, Poland;
  • Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Science, Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra;
  • Faculty of Agrobiology and Food Resources, Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra.

Training activities
Linguistics
Advanced English language course: conversation and understanding; scientific English writing. This activity is carried out in common with other PhD courses (4 ECTS).

Information technology
The course aims at providing the cultural and technical tools that enable the PhD students to understand and deal with the evolution of IT. In particular, the PhD student will acquire the basic skills to identify adequate strategies for solving problems, as well as to analyze and interpret data, by using specific informatics applications and databases. This activity is carried out in common with other doctoral courses 3 ECTS).

Management of research, research systems and funding systems.
This activity provides integrative knowledge to form professionals capable of managing the different levels of research-related activities and promoting change and innovation. This activity is carried out in common with other PhD courses. Courses are carried out by experts on Management of Research Projects launched by EU calls and by the main types of national calls (3 ECTS).

Valorization of research results and intellectual property
Course held by experts on soft skills: relational, methodological and personal skills, with particular emphasis on activities related to scientific research (3 ECTS). Course on communication, research evaluation and intellectual property (2 ECTS.

Other training activities
  • Series of seminars in common with other doctoral courses present in the University of Molise (3 ECTS);
  • Biostatistics course and use of data processing software (5 ECTS, in common with other PhD courses);
  • Basic course "R" (5 ECTS, in common with other PhD courses);
  • Teaching courses in English for doctoral training (8 ECTS);
  • Participation in conferences, workshops and summer schools (9 ECTS).
